The Warsaw High School Moot Court is an initiative undertaken by a group of students from 33 Mikolaj Kopernik High School in Warsaw and Warsaw University under the patronage of the Court of Arbitration at the Polish Chamber of Commerce in Warsaw and FKA Furtek Komosa Aleksandrowicz, a leading polish law firm.
Warsaw High School Moot Court is a simulation of arbitral proceedings and is aimed at broadening knowledge about law among high school students. Participants will advocate on behalf of their parties in a fictional international commercial dispute on the basis of legal procedures provided by the Moot.
The Warsaw High School Moot Court consists of two phases - the eliminations and the oral debates in court. In the preliminary eliminations teams of two will be expected to prepare a written comment and summary of a legal case and answer questions attached to it. The case will be published on the Moot's website. The two written memoranda, both for the Claimant and the Respondent, should be attached to the registration e-mail.
The teams should be made of two students, not necessarily representing the same school. Each team which have qualified through the eliminations will proceed to the debates in court and will be assigned with the role of either claimant or respondent. Each team should be prepared to argue on behalf of both Claimant and Respondent. Teams will be randomly assigned to the role of Claimant and Respondent.
In December 2016 the actual debates will take place at the Court of Arbitration at the Polish Chamber of Commerce in Warsaw. The debates will be divided into the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final round. The debates will be overseen by a panel of judges consisting of members of the Presidency, law students and Polish arbitrators and lawyers.
Additionally, before the second phase the participants will be invited to a series of lectures and workshops conducted by our esteemed guests: attorneys, arbitrators, judges and scholars. The events aim at giving the students an opportunity to talk to practitioners and find answers to question concerning the law and legal practice.
We believe that the participation in such an event would be an invaluable experience for a student and be a glimpse into the wide and complex field of international law.
